Sweet Homemade Breakfast Sausage
Ingredients:
- fat free ground turkey or chicken
- cinnamon
- nutmeg
- green apple
- bone broth
- salt (to taste)
Savory Homemade Breakfast Sausage
Ingredients:
- fat free ground turkey or chicken
- garlic
- red onion
- cumin
- black pepper
- bone broth
- salt (to taste)
How To Make Homemade Breakfast Sausage:
1.Put all meat, broth, and spices into a large bowl. Make sure the apples/onion (depending on which type of sausage you’re making) are diced up super small–if they’re too big the sausage patties will have a hard time sticking together.
2. Mix the ingredients together with your hands. You might be tempted to skip the bone broth, but in addition to its nutritional value, it helps these patties to not dry out.
3. Form into 12 small patties.
4. Bake these in the oven at 375º for 25 minutes or so. I love using parchment paper or a silpat mat under my sausage patties.
I like to cook them for about 10 minutes per side. If you’d rather fry them, make sure to count the oil!
These will make 12 delicious and perfect breakfast sausage patties.
Why Should I Make Weight Watchers Homemade Breakfast Sausage?
Meal prep! This is one of those recipes that you can make at the beginning of the week and bam, you’ve got breakfasts for the whole week. Done. Complete. Checked off the list!
If you have kids in the house you know how hard it can be to get them dressed, fed, and out the door on time for school days. Save yourself some hassle and use this recipe as a great way to fill them up with healthy protein to keep them full, focused, and on track for their own busy days.
Finally, protein packed breakfasts are a must on the Weight Watchers Freestyle program. If your goal is weight loss, you must eat enough healthy and filling foods. You can enjoy this recipe guilt free as you’ll see below…the points on this recipe are so low you’ll want to eat it all the time.
How many WW Points for this homemade sausage?
This is going to blow your mind. So stick with me here…Remember that if you stray from these ingredients you need to recalculate for yourself. I used the Weight Watchers online recipe creator to calculate points per serving and points per recipe and you should do the same!
Serving Sizes:
Recipe makes 12 patties. Each serving is 3 patties.
0 Blue Plan Points | 1 Green Plan Points | 0 Purple Plan Points
On the 2022/2023 Plan, both the Sweet Breakfast Sausage with Apples and the Savory Breakfast Sausage is 0 points.
I calculated with both chicken and turkey and as long as you are using low fat varieties of either the points are the same. Ground chicken breast would be the version you’d use to calculate at these points! If you use something else you’ll need to recalculate to include those points.
All zero point foods should be eaten in moderation. You should not eat until stuffed, you should eat until satisfied. These are the recommendations that Weight Watchers uses on their list of zero point foods so I try and stick to them as well.
Why are these healthy?
These sausage patties are healthy because we stuck with clean ingredients and skipped the brown sugar, maple syrup, and other ingredients that are more of a treat instead of a daily meal. If you want to lose weight on Weight Watchers, you have to plan for success!

I made the savery version and it’s really delicious. The only change that I made was to brown them in a non stick pan with just a tiny spray of cooking oil. They were just so white and ugly right out of the oven!
