Ingredients in Turkey Sausage

See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

A marbled counter top with white bowls full of different labeled ingredients needed to make turkey sausage.
  • Ground Turkey: Ground turkey breast works best for a leaner, healthier sausage.
  • Seasonings: I love to use seasonings like cumin, black pepper, and a little cayenne.
  • Bone Broth: Low-sodium bone broth is what really gives these sausages their savory flavor. I like to use my homemade broth recipe.

How to Make Homemade Turkey Sausage

A white bowl with raw ground turkey, chopped red onion, diced garlic and seasonings - all about to be stirred to make sausage patties.

Step 1: Put the ground turkey, garlic, onions, broth, and spices into a large mixing bowl and mix everything together with your hands.

Step 2: Scoop a generous portion of the turkey mixture into the palm of your hand and gently shape it into a round, flat patty.

Place each patty on a foil-, parchment-, or Silpat-lined baking sheet, then repeat with the remaining mixture until you have about 12 evenly sized patties ready to cook.

Pro tip: If your Silpat mat has circular markings, use them as a guide for even portion sizes.

Step 3: Bake the patties at 375°F for about 25 minutes or until they’re cooked through and golden around the edges.

Recipe Tips

  • This recipe is one of my favorite easy meal prep recipes! Double the batch to have a week’s worth of lean, protein-packed breakfast patties ready to go.
  • Store cooked patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.
  • Homemade turkey sausage patties will last up to 2 months in the freezer. For best results, freeze them in a single layer on a baking sheet first, then transfer them to an airtight, freezer-safe container or bag to prevent sticking and freezer burn.
  • To reheat, cook in a skillet over medium heat for 8–10 minutes or warm in an air fryer until heated through.
  • For a little extra heat, add cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes. You can easily adjust the spices to match your taste preferences.

Turkey Sausage Patties FAQs

Can I make these sausage patties sweet instead of savory?

Yes! Add a touch of pure maple syrup or brown sugar for a hint of sweetness—just note this will change the nutrition info slightly. If you love a sweeter sausage flavor, try my Chicken Apple Sausage Patties for another delicious homemade option.

Can I use this mixture to make sausage links or crumbles?

Absolutely! Shape into links before baking or cook the mixture as crumbles in a skillet for easy breakfast bowls or scrambles.

What should I serve with turkey sausage?

These pair perfectly with my Veggie Hash Brown Recipe and Instant Pot Boiled Eggs for a balanced, protein-packed breakfast that’s quick and satisfying.

  1. Been trying to find ways to increase my protein intake (trouble maintaining weight), and came across this recipe. Not usually a fan of ground turkey, but you managed to zhoosh it up into something delicious! I’m glad I made a double batch. Also broiled at the end for a little color.

I found that making balls helped me make 12 evenly sized portions, then I just went and flattened each into a patty, so I knew the nutritional info is reasonably close (no Silpat yet!)

  2. I am entering this recipe into my app, and I bought Shady Farm 93% lean ground turkey and 4oz is 85mg of sodium by itself, and your whole recipe says 67 total for the 4oz portion? What ground turkey did you use? This recipe comes out 176 calories and total of 103.5mg of sodium.

    1. Hi Tina,
We used Very Well Fit website to calculate the nutrition facts for this recipe. The ground turkey on their site does not state any brand name, but is listed as 99% fat free. We always recommend calculating your own nutrition facts based on the brands you purchase :)

  3. under notes–don’t understand what it means…what is 21 day fix?….and one red(what idoes the red mean? and what greenis negligible? I am new to ww and an trying to learn via computer as I have NO smartphone..it is VERY exasperating.

    Thank you for helping me.
