Why I Love WW Chocolate Ice Cream
I love this Weight Watchers Chocolate Ice Cream because it’s a simple, healthy treat that satisfies my sweet tooth without any guilt. Sometimes called banana ice cream or “nice cream,” it’s naturally sweet from bananas and has all the flavor and creamy texture of traditional ice cream. Whether I enjoy it straight from a bowl, make mini ice cream sandwiches, or even turn it into bars, it’s a convenient, homemade alternative to store-bought options—fewer ingredients, no extra trip to the store, and still totally delicious!
Enjoy!

How to Make Weight Watchers Ice Cream
This is a super easy recipe–the most time consuming part is the time it takes to freeze!

Step 1: Add sliced frozen bananas, almond milk, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract to a food processor or blender.

Step 2: Blend on high for about one minute until everything is creamy and smooth.

Step 3: Pour the ice cream mixture into a freezer-safe dish and freeze for an hour or until the ice cream has hardened.
This time varies based on your freezer and the container you use to freeze.

Step 4: Keep the ice cream in the freezer for any time you want a quick, healthy dessert!

Recipe Tips
- Slice your bananas thinly and freeze them on a cookie sheet for about 30 minutes before adding to the food processor. Sliced bananas freeze faster than whole bananas and help you enjoy your ice cream immediately.
- Start with a smaller amount of cocoa powder and adjust to taste.
- You can swap in any nut milk you like—just double-check your Weight Watchers points.
- Want to get creative? Top with chocolate chips, peanut butter, or a dollop of Cool Whip—but remember to recalculate points if you do.
- For a vanilla version, simply skip the cocoa powder; you’ll still get the natural sweetness of the bananas.

WW Ice Cream FAQs
Yes! This recipe is completely vegan when using plant-based milk.
Your serving size depends on the size of your bananas. For the most accurate counts, divide the entire batch in half and consider that two servings.
We love adding low fat chocolate graham crackers, fat free whipped cream, fresh fruit, frozen non-fat Greek yogurt covered berries, 100 calorie packs of almonds, Crispy Quinoa, or a tablespoon of peanut butter.
This recipe fits into a low calorie diet because it’s made with minimally processed foods. For a well-rounded eating plan, take into account ingredients and all nutritional information in the foods you’re eating–not just calories and points.

This is great recipe. Satisfied the sweet tooth.
I appreciate this recipe so much. I’d hate to give up my chocolate ice cream just to lose weight!
I love, love coffee ice cream and was looking for a healthier recipe that didn’t include bananas. I’m so glad I found yours! Truly delicious!!!
I love coffee ice cream too. so, did you add instant coffee?
Hi Liz! Here’s our post for WW Coffee Ice Cream
For this recipe we use fresh brewed espresso :)
I don’t have a food processor…can I use a blender?
Absolutely !
Can I use room temp bananas in a frozen yogurt / ice cream maker? I got one from my mom and really want to use it for something like this :)
I’ve never used an ice cream maker! Do you usually add room temp ingredients into one? If so, yes!
Does this actually taste like bananas? I’m not a banana fan, but love chocolate ice cream!!
It tastes a little like bananas. If you don’t mind bananas you probably wouldn’t even notice.
Thanks for the recipe. I calculated the points and because the bananas are frozen it told me the points would be 7 smart points.
Hi Margaret,
Freezing fruit or vegetables does not change their point value. The only time that fruit or vegetables that are normally zero points, have points is when they are blended for a drink. In things like soup, salsa, ice cream, or sauces where you are still going to be eating them with a spoon the blended rule does not apply.
I chatted with WW on the website just to be sure and they confirmed. They offered this suggestion: A good rule of thumb is that the first 1/2 cup per day of blended frozen bananas is zero points. I personally do not count them for this recipe because it’s eaten with a spoon.
At the end of the day we all have to do what works for us! Based on the serving size, the ingredients, and the process, we have to make the decision on how to count them that we think is right. When in doubt you can always ask in the WW chat like I did, they’re very helpful and happy to answer questions. Barbara helped me sort out the calculation for these bananas in just a few minutes :)
a few drops of liquid stevia will sweeten it without changing consistency or points. Just a thought if you are allergic to bananas and using avocado.
That’s a good idea!! Thank you.
I’m so sad that all these nicecream recipes use banana as a base because I’m allergic to bananas. :( The alternative I’ve seen on other recipes is usually avocados for creaminess, but it doesn’t have the sweetness, so then you have to soak and add dates, and then how many points it is skyrockets. Do you have any suggestions?
I wish I had an answer for this! I don’t know of any other options though, besides the banana and avocado ;)
Low fat Greek yogurt
Frozen mangos.
In the past I made ice cream sandwiches using fat free cool whip and gram crackers. I wonder if you could do the same thing just add the other ingredients. Whipping cream works also. You whip it up and add sweetener. Points would be different. I use natural honey. I’m allergic to imitation sweetness. Caused my fibromyalgia.
Just had chocolate avocado ice cream…delicious.
two avocados sliced
1/2 cup cocoa powder
2 c unsweetened almond milk
1 Tablespoon vanilla
1 cup Swerve (sugar sub)
blend then place in ice cream pot for 20 minutes
Unbelievable!nmade 8 2scoop servings
2 points!!!!!!per serving
Just so I get it right, you freeze the banana slices before adding to the recipe?
Hi Kirsten, that is correct. It helps with the texture to have the bananas frozen beforehand and then again after!
Does “cocoa” mean unsweetened cocoa powder usually used for baking, or hot cocoa mix? If the latter, did you use regular or sugar free? Thanks!
Hi there, it’s cocoa powder, not hot cocoa mix!
Thanks!
