We have a tradition on Christmas morning– a Christmas scavenger hunt! Holiday scavenger hunts are a wonderful way to make gift opening last a little longer when your kids get older and ask Santa for more expensive gifts.

We have been setting up scavenger hunts for our kids since they were little. Now that they’re teens, we still set them up and they still love scavenger hunts on Christmas morning.

There’s no need to start from scratch when creating your clues because there are several places on the internet to find scavenger hunt clues for teens! Of course, your clues might need to be tweaked a little depending on your hiding spots, but these are great starters!

Setting up a Scavenger Hunt for Teens

This year our Christmas scavenger hunt will lead down the street to the neighbor’s house, where we hid our youngest son’s big gift. I can’t wait to hide clues down the sidewalk and in neighbor’s yards, but I have to admit I’m not thrilled with running around the neighborhood early in the morning when it’s so cold out!

There are so many great places to find Christmas Scavenger Hunt clues on the internet–I have pulled together a few great scavenger hunt clues for teens to get you started!

As kids get older they ask for more expensive gifts, which of course means less under the tree. A Holiday Scavenger hunt can make present time last longer!

Here are some of our own holiday scavenger hunt clues and rules, and a quick summary of how we set it all up (you know, rules and such). Shannan at Tween Us has some great printable scavenger hunt clues that can be used in just about any home, as well.

Scavenger Hunt Clues for Teens

I’m using these clues for teens this year–I usually scale it down to about 5 clues because teens are a little less patient than little kids :)

  1. Your last gift is hiding somewhere around the house! Make sure to tell Mom and Dad how much you love them before we get started…they might give you your second Christmas Scavenger Hunt clue!
  2. Awh, Mom and Dad are the best! Look for your first clue right where you should be STUDYING after school every day.
  3. You found this clue under your desk chair! Now, look in the place where you do your hair.
  4. Score! You found your next clue in the bathroom, now tell Dad the formula for finding the area of something (MATH!).
  5. You got it right! LxW=Area ;) To find your final gift, head to where you keep your shoes!

Is your teen too old for a Christmas Scavenger Hunt?

Teenagers and tweens love scavenger hunts as much as younger kids do–they may not show it early in the morning, but they do. When given the option to skip our annual scavenger hunt tradition, our 17 year old said that instead of doing one himself, he’d like to help his younger brother with his.

Another option for a child who isn’t super excited about a Christmas scavenger hunt is to create the scavenger hunt clues for their younger sibling. It keeps them in the loop and involved, but take s a little of the spotlight off them during the actual scavenger hunt.

Tell me… is this your first holiday scavenger hunt? I’d love to hear the creative ways you’re doing your own Christmas scavenger hunt!
