Ordering at restaurants while eating healthy can be tricky. I always ask a ton of questions before ordering, and I feel like it’s a little overboard sometimes–but I want to know what is in my food and drinks! Ordering healthy Starbucks drinks is getting a little easier today thanks to this guide for what to order at Starbucks on the 21 Day Fix and other nutrition plans.

I like knowing what my favorite order requires in terms of 21 Day Fix containers and with regard to artificial sweeteners. Then I can make a more informed decision at the counter…or I can skip it altogether if I know I won’t have room for it in my day!

What To Order At Starbucks On The 21 Day Fix

One of the main points that Autumn preaches on the 21 Day Fix is that you don’t have to eat only certain foods. Of course there is one thing that we avoid that will come into play here: artificial sweeteners – this is a big one!

The 21 Day Fix is unique because it guides you to make smart choices on a daily basis. Eventually it becomes second nature and there in lies the real success with the 21 Day Fix. I’ve loved turning the Fix into a healthy lifestyle, and things like this list of what to order at Starbucks on the 21 Day Fix are a must to keep me on track. These are my favorite healthy drinks at Starbucks.

How to Order Healthy Starbucks Drinks

You should know right off the bat that the Starbucks Stevia option isn’t your best choice. Yes, it’s Stevia–but it’s got Erythritol in it. As of 6/20/2018, Starbucks uses a product from Whole Earth Sweetener called Nature Sweet that contains Erythritol, Fructose, Chicory Root Fiber, Stevia Leaf Extract, Monk Fruit Extract. If you’d like to know more about erythritol and if you’re comfortable with it in your foods, head over and read my post about artificial sweeteners.

Know that while avoiding artificial sweeteners or on the 21 Day Fix, low cal and sugar free options are not the ones you’re looking for. Even if it has more calories, you want the most unprocessed sugar or Stevia you can find.

How Can I Make my Starbucks Drink Healthier?

The best thing you can do for your Starbucks drink is bring 100% Stevia with you and add it to your drink. I haven’t gone into the varieties of milk available at Starbucks, but it’s worth mentioning that most of them are they’re sweetened–which means more sugar.

The bottom line here is that you should be informed about what you’re ordering at Starbucks, and it shouldn’t be an every day habit. Go to Starbucks, choose your healthy drink wisely, and enjoy a sweet treat. I am not saying don’t go, and I’m not speaking negatively about Starbucks.

What is the lowest calorie Starbucks drink?

Again, the lowest calories are going to be in a plain black coffee. Remember that whatever you are adding to any drink is going to be adding calories (unless it’s ice or water). If you are a coffee drinker who doesn’t want to change that ;) you’d be doing yourself a huge favor in terms of calories and containers to learn to drink it black or mostly black!

Which Size Starbucks Should I Order? Ordering Healthy Coffee Drinks at Starbucks

Food for thought that I read in a Starbucks forum:

The only difference between a Grande and Venti in hot coffee beverages is the amount of milk. You are getting the same amount of espresso in both so you might as well cut out the extra milk (and calories) by sticking with the Grande when it comes to the caffeine kick!

Ask the barista about the differences between drink sizes, it might help you make a decision about your order! Personally, the only drink sizes I consider are tall and grande, unless it’s an unsweetened coffee or green tea.

Best Healthy Starbucks Drinks | What to order for the 21 Day Fix

I’m recommending drinks that have 5g of real sugar or less for a Grande, unless otherwise noted. I am not looking at calories, and I am not considering any skinny beverages, as they have artificial sweeteners.

  • Iced or Hot Green Tea, no sweetener (this can be extended to any tea). Also, to ensure there is absolutely no extra sugar in your drink, make sure to say “unsweetened” when you order it.
  • Black Coffee or Tea, Iced or Hot (0g sugar)
  • Shaken teas: Specifically order “unsweetened” because they come with sweetener in them (cane sugar)
  • Caffe Americano (0g sugar): Shots of espresso and water
  • Iced Caffe Latte with Almond Milk (3g sugar): Espresso with milk over ice
  • Cappuccino with Almond Milk (5g sugar)
  • Unsweetened Iced Coffee  (0g sugar)
  • Red Eye: Shot of espresso in coffee (0g sugar)

Healthy Hot Starbucks Drinks:

I’m only recommending drinks that have 5g of real sugar or less for a Grande, unless otherwise noted. I am not looking at calories, and I am not considering any skinny beverages, as they have artificial sweeteners.

  • Black Coffee or Tea, (0g sugar)
  • Hot Green Tea, no sweetener (this can be extended to any tea).
  • Caffe Americano (0g sugar): Shots of espresso and water
  • Cappuccino with Almond Milk (5g sugar)
  • Red Eye: Shot of espresso in coffee (0g sugar)

Tips for Ordering Healthy Starbucks Drinks

Here are what you’re looking for to help you order at Starbucks on the 21 Day Fix:

  1. Something made fresh. Avoid anything that is prepackaged (except for water). Opt for more of the fresh made items, this includes drinks! Something made at the counter while you wait is going to be a lot easier to track and customize than a prepackaged drink.
  2. Ask for less flavor. This doesn’t mean no flavor–I get that you’re probably going to Starbucks for a treat. For example, 2 tablespoons (about 3 pumps) of Starbucks caramel syrup has 21 grams of sugar in it. 2 tablespoons of Toffeenut has 16 grams of sugar. For reference, a tall Toffeenut latte has 3 pumps of syrup (24 grams of sugar), a grande has 4 (32 grams of sugar, and a venti has 5 (40 grams of sugar). It’s ok to ask for a half or a quarter pump of syrup, but see below for an even better option.
  3. Don’t forget the sodium. A tall iced coffee with 3 pumps of syrup has about 187 mg of sodium from the syrup. See below for a no sodium option.
  4. Use your own flavors! SweetLeaf Stevia drops come in SO many flavors. You can pretty much make your drink anything you want it to be with those. They even have mini 1.7oz bottles that fit right into your purse. SweetLeaf is my favorite brand because it contains only Stevia–no sugar and no sodium.
  5. No Whipped Cream! If something seems too tasty to be good for you…it probably is. Skinny vanilla latte may sound good but it’s got a lot of sugar! Don’t let the names fool you and don’t let your sugar desires get the best of you!

What is the healthiest Starbucks drink?

When it comes to ordering a healthy Starbucks drink you aren’t going to do better than a black coffee. That being said, I get it, not everyone can or wants to drink coffee plain.

Aside from that I’d say the healthiest option is probably unsweetened hot or iced teas and if you are looking for something with espresso I’d say order an Americano which is just espresso and water! Brewed tea, nonfat milk, and iced latte drinks without cream and sugar are going to be healthy options as well.

What is the lowest carb drink at Starbucks?

Espresso! There’s no carbs in a shot of espresso so that would make the Americano your best choice for lowest carb drink at Starbucks. If you are on a Keto diet you can always add coconut milk or heavy cream to this as well as their sugar free syrups. Remember, not all of those choices are going to work for 21 Day Fix though so if you are on Portion Fix or 21 Day Fix you need to follow the tips above for ordering!

What coffee drink is healthiest?

Hot or iced coffee with no sweetener or stevia sweetener is a great choice for the healthiest coffee drink. You can also have the Americano with little to no alterations necessary for a healthy coffee drink. If you are adding to your coffee drink at Starbucks make sure to be adding FIX friendly choices like stevia and unsweetened almond milk instead of cream and sugar or regular milk!
